Is Gold Magnetic?

by Norman on 11/16/13

The answer is NO. Gold is never magnetic. It is a non-ferrous metal so that means it does not attract to a magnet. Gold, silver, palladium and platinum are all non-magnetic. The clasp found in jewelry that is used to secure bracelets and necklaces contain a metal spring which is magnetic.

If you would like to further test your gold to see what karat (purity) of gold it is purchase a nitric acid gold test kit from www.ebay.com and you will be able to determine what karat gold you have. This is a very reliable test process but it takes an experienced tester to valuate the results. Remember to always file a small part of the gold then proceed to the test. This helps in removing any gold layer that is plated.

If you need any help with your gold testing please feel free to email us, we would be happy to help.
